Making Contributions

Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our education program in the Artibonite Valley in Haiti.  We hope that you will be interested in sponsoring a Haitian student’s education.

As you may know, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.  Less than 15% of Haitian students ever graduate from high school, and only 3 % go on to higher education.  The future of Haiti rests with its youth; without education, the conditions in Haiti are not likely to improve.  There are very few public schools in Haiti, not nearly enough to support the students.  Most students must seek private education and it costs about $275 a year for tuition, books and uniforms.  The average family in Haiti earns less than $750 a year, so you can see the enormity of the problem. The Crosby Fund for Haitian Education was founded to provide full scholarships for intelligent and promising students in secondary school.  We chose to support secondary education because there seemed to be much more support for primary education in the region, but very little support beyond the 6th grade.  These students are left on the streets with no possibility to attend school, no opportunity for employment —literally no future.  By contributing to a Haitian student’s education, you are providing hope, not only for a particular student, but for Haiti as well.

This year we will begin to sponsor several university scholarships for $2,500 per year.  We currently have one student in the Quisqueya University in Port-au-Prince.  The University provides a full range of programs, and is considered one of the best universities in Haiti.  The university applications will be reviewed and selections made by the Board of Trustees in the United States.  We will be looking for university opportunities outside of Haiti as well for our students.  Any thoughts or suggestions in this area are gratefully received.

We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit private corporation.  Your contribution is fully deductible to the extent allowed by the law.  Ted and Rebecca Crosby cover all of the operating expenses, so 100% of your contribution goes directly to the students.  The Crosbys visit Haiti 3 or 4 times a year to oversee the operation of the program, and they communicate with the employees and Advisory Board on a weekly basis.  The Board of Trustees in the United States oversee the operations as well. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email us.  Thanks again for your interest.
