Scholarship Program

In a country where education is not free, providing scholarships for students is essential. 50% of children attend primary school in Haiti and that number dwindles quickly through the years as tuition increases, resulting in only 15% of students finishing secondary school (high school). 2% of the graduates go on to the university. These grim facts answer the often asked question of “why we offer scholarships in Haiti.”

We provide four scholarship programs for students living in the Artibonite Valley in Haiti: primary (pre-k – 6), secondary (7 -Philo, a 13th college preparatory year), technical school (post-secondary) and university (bachelor degree program). Together there are currently 551 students in the program.

The Education Center supports our scholarship students through tutoring programs, seminars, and a computer lab with software to assist their learning. The Center also houses the administration who work diligently on all facets of our scholarship program.

Tuition fees are negotiated and annual contracts are made at the beginning of the year with each school. Payments to the schools are made directly by our staff.

Uniforms are made by local tailors and seamstresses, offering much needed employment to the region. Every school has a different uniform, and all of our students are different sizes, so providing a uniform for each student is quite a challenge!  Each student receives a new uniform every year.

We purchase all the required books for each grade in Port-a-Prince and distribute these books to each child at the beginning of the school year. Over 2,200 books are distributed each September.

Report cards for the primary and secondary program are monitored 4 times a year. If the child is not doing well, the staff works with the school administration, students and parents to see how we can improve the grades. Our new Education Center offers tutoring programs that are beneficial to many students.

The state offers exams at 6th, 9th and Philo grades. The results of the state exams give us good information on the quality of the education in each school, and helps us assess the needs of our students. We make every effort to help each child succeed in the program and advance to the next grade.
